One-Year Anniversary Hand-Forged Brass Cuff
To celebrate Unwashed Denim's one-year anniversary and do something special, I teamed up with an extremely talented metalsmith from Pittsburgh, Michael Studebaker, to design these hand-forged brass cuffs. Each piece is individually hammered from a solid piece of brass by Michael in his studio.
When I set out to design these cuffs, I wanted to create something that fit the aesthetic of Unwashed Denim. To do so, Michael and I decided to leave the cuffs in a "raw" form, just like the denim and vegetable tanned leather I use in the rest of my products. Most metal work is polished and given a clear protective coat when finished, but by leaving the brass in its natural state, the cuff will tarnish and patina over time, just like your favorite raw denim and leather goods. The simple design of the cuff, a square side that tapers to a flat center and back again, is intended to subtly show the plasticity and beauty of hand-forged brass.
On the inside of the cuff, one side is branded "UWD," while the other side has Michael's maker's stamp, "Studebaker."
The brass is left half hard, meaning the "small" cuff can be adjusted between 6-1/8" to 6-5/8" in circumference, and the "large" cuff can be adjusted between 6-3/4" to 7-1/4" with relative ease.
A big thank you to everyone who has been a part of Unwashed Denim's story over the past year. Looking forward to the next one!
